After a huge week at Flemington we now come out to Sandown, which is well regarded us a punter friendly meeting after what is usually a tough Flemington carnival. The fields are a little short on numbers, but it looks a good card and there are plenty of winners to be found!

Race 1 – 1000m Merson Cooper Stakes

Another one of these tough 2yo races to kick off the day. Been many spruiks on these first starters. Brazen Boy won an Adelaide trial by the length of the straight but only beat two rivals over the 800m. Forbes looks to have jumped out super when sitting back and rounding them up nicely. Anamoe should have finished closer when never getting a crack at them in the Debutant Stakes behind Fake Love.

Selection: Forbes $2.80

Race 2 – 1400m Twilight Glow Stakes

La Mexicana is going for a hatrick of wins, but seems very short and I believe goes better on softer ground. I am looking at some more value in Hindaam who I think the stable have worked out now when riding her cold. She really let down nicely at Bendigo last start and I think she can go on with it and do it again here.

Selection: Hindaam $5

Race 3 – 1300m Kevin Heffernan Stakes

Blazejowski had a super trial, but then went to Flemington and faced the breeze on the unfavoured inside of the track. Goes very well second up and the step up in trip will help. Gets the Melbourne Cup winning jockey on-board. Should go close. Kemelpasa is hard to knock after a very impressive Flemington win down the straight. Order of Command ran second in that race and will be rock hard fit for this.

Selection: Blazejowski $5

Race 4 – 1000m Doveton Stakes

A very tough race here with seven of the runners being between $5 and $10. Human Nature loves the short trip, has been super at two runs at the Valley this prep. First up was second to Alfa Oro, who is a very talented type. Fourth up should be rock hard fit and peaking here. Worth an each way play.

Selection: Human Nature EW $8.50

Race 5 – 1500m Sandown Stakes

Kenya comes up very short here after only winning a BM90 against very average opposition. It was impressive but way up in class here. Buffalo River has had a tough spring but this looks the easiest race he has faced. This horse was second in a Group 1 and we are getting a better price than a horse coming out of a benchmark race. Junipal the other chance in the race but I think Buffalo River will be up on speed and be very hard to beat.

Selection:  Buffalo River $3

Race 6 – 1600m Sandown Guineas

Aysar just wins. Next.

Selection: Aysar $1.70

Race 7 – 3200m Sandown Cup

A tough race over the Melbourne Cup trip. Sin to Win finally broke through last start and was very impressive in doing it. Will love this trip. Miami Bound and Etah James come out of the Melbourne Cup and will be rock hard fit for this trip. Sweet Thomas had the fastest L200 behind Sin to Win and looks to be wanting this trip. Tricky.

Selection: Tough Race. Miami Bound $4.50

Race 8 – 2400m Zipping Classic

The old boy Avilius comes into this after a super Caulfield Cup and a fail in the Melbourne Cup. Back in trip and well back in class here. The key to him is riding him closer. He struggles to win because he is always snagged out the back. I think from barrier 5 Olly can sit midfield and he should prove his class and be winning here. Princess Jenni was super when beating Pondus in the Bendigo Cup. Future Score also going very well for Matt Cumani.

Selection: Aviilius $3.90

Race 9 – 1800m Eclipse Stakes

Pacodali opened at a crazy price, won this race last year and looks a good EW chance. Was good last start when wide. Homesman won first up, will again be up on speed but looks to have company and won’t get it easy. Also has to lug the big weight. West Wind is absolutely flying winning 3 on the trot. Has a really good on speed racing pattern and is very tough. Beat Affair to Remember, who subsequently won the Matriarch stakes last week. Power Scheme another horse going super winning his last 2.

Selection: West Wind EW $7.50

Race 10 – 1500m Summoned Stakes

Missile Mantra seems to have had no luck this prep. Was very good in the G1 Empire Rose last start when wide and kept hitting the line strongly. Has a tricky wide draw but looks the class of the field. Game Thorns was much improved last start and will enjoy a good track. Fascino went well last start at Flemington, will enjoy the weight drop and be around the mark third up and fit.

Selection: Missile Mantra $3.90
