SCONE R1 #7 PIZZLY $2.50
Her form fell away at the end of last preparation but her best would be very competitive here. A change of stable might spark some improvement.
SCONE R4 #2 POETRY IN MOTION $4.50
Another one in the same boat. Last preparation she finished 4th in a race at Kembla that included some nice types, including Get the Idea and Opacity. She then fell away a bit but change of stables may help.
SCONE R5 #8 COMMANDING MISSILE $3.35
He could not have been more impressive when running 2nd in an open trial at Bathurst. He split Charmed Princess and Will to Excel. In the next trial he beat Prime Star who has won a listed race.
BALLARAT R1 #1 CLEVER APPROACH $2.65
Another former Kiwi. There seems to be a heap of them going around at the moment and they usually measure up ok. Should be fit enough here first up with a few jump-outs under the belt. Most recently crossed the line with Nordic Symphony at Coleraine. Jockey and trainer combination seem to be going well. Next best #8 STELLAR WITNESS and #5 UNHARMED.
I thought Emerald Crown was going to be hard to beat first up but she found a couple better on the day. The winner was expected to go well after being well supported and the 2nd placed horse Run Walrus Run has franked the form by winning a maiden. Fitter and can roll along out in front and be hard to catch. I liked GRINZINGER STRASSE on debut at big odds. She went around in a jump-out with Riddle Me That and Barocha and went well enough prior to that run. The debut was sound enough, going fairly quick early and just finding one better. Can figure here at nice each way odds.
BALLARAT R3 #9 PORTLAND SKY $3.25
Been waiting about 25 weeks for this colt. That was after he caught my eye in the official trials at Cranbourne. He travelled very well and there has been a few subsequent winners from that trial, including Koa, Six Shillings and Yulong Holiday. Since then he has performed well enough in a stack of jump-outs. #17 RAAZOU looks the danger, he has a bit of speed and will likely go forward and give them something to catch. Better include #12 Baaqyah in trifectas. 2nd to Hard Landing and Tagaloa reads well.
I think Pellie is crazy odds here. She was a mile back first up at Ballarat but made good ground in the straight to finish 4th. Should strip fitter for the run and appreciate the extra 100m. MAGNITA looks to be struggling but gets one more chance to produce what I have seen at the jump-outs. Something very small at the big odds just in case.
