SANDOWN HILLSIDE R1 #1 MCCAIN $2.95
I thought this two-year-old gelding was ok on debut at Sale. The form from that race has been franked to some extent with the 2nd placed Roppongi subsequently winning and 6th placed Journalese running 3rd, only beaten 0.3L at Pakenham. Mccain was then strong late when winning at Echuca and the 3rd placed horse Diesel ‘n’ Dust has since bolted in by 3.75L. He is in a good stable and you would expect he will keep improving.
MURRAY BRIDGE R1 #5 REAL REASON $6.30
This gelding over raced on debut during the early stages and also covered a bit of ground without cover. He stuck on ok but felt the pinch with about 100m to go and weakened. The winner of that race The Brumby has subsequently run 2nd in a listed race, only beaten less than a length.
MURRAY BRIDGE R2 #2 BORN TO PLAY $1.96
This filly trialled well in New South Wales before being transferred from Waller to the McEvoy yard. She was heavily backed on her South Australian debut but was very one paced in the straight and could only manage to run into 4th. She will be fitter for the first up run and might improve out of sight on a dry track.
MURRAY BRIDGE R4 #11 SAMURAI MOON $2.00
I thought this colt was going to be hard to beat last start at Sale, but he could only manage 2nd. He did have to carry 59.5 kg there which did probably impact his ability to sprint after the eventual winner Category Five. He should be a big chance again here today with only the 57.5kg on his back and I still believe the form behind American Whiskey will stack up.
CANTERBURY R1 #7 MAGIC RULER $7.30
He was trialling very well leading into the debut and was well backed late to suggest he would run well at Hawkesbury. Unfortunately for me and everyone else who had backed him, he was ridden conservatively, and the leader Mr Colorful was able to sneak a winning break and hold on to win. I expect him to improve sharply from that run and the extra 100m should suit.
CANTERBURY R2 #5 LA FORET $3.05
Another one that was trialling well before the debut and then ran well at her first start. She is a fast filly so she will most likely hit the ground running and expect her to be in it for a long way. I thought #11 TINY moved well in her latest trial when winning at Warwick Farm, I do not usually find many Godolphin runners at the trials so when one catches my eye, I definitely respect. #10 TIGHT ROPES always gets included into the exotics.
