A few chances here but went with the two at bigger odds. MAGNITA has jumped out well on a few occasions but was a bit weak late in her races last preparation after showing speed early. The recent jump-out over 1000m at Mornington suggest she has come back in ok order, crossing the line with Miss Entice and Daania. SOMETHING GRAND stuck on really well with the older gallopers in a recent Ballarat jump-out, including Honorable Mention. Last but not least #11 WIDE AWAKE looks to have returned in nice fashion, beating Ruler by Choice in a recent Flemington jump-out, really like her action. Include her in all exotics, just went the way of the other two because they were bigger odds.
Yulong Island is on the quick back up here after racing at Sandown on Wednesday. He looks to be improving with each run, as most from the stable do and if he can go forward from the inside barrier again, he should prove hard to run down. Beat by one that looks to have some ability last start in Toyetic. I was keen on WILSDORF on debut after he caught my eye in a few jump-outs. He was disappointing and looked to have every chance but also looked to be still learning what its all about. Prepared to forgive him and have something each way.
MOONEY VALLEY R3 #2 KEEPER’S DREAM $8.00
I thought he went much better last start when the blinkers went on. He was strong through the line so the rise in distance should help and the winner Carnamah looks progressive. If RONNANI ran up to some of her races last preparation she would be a chance but not sure if she has come back this prep.
LEGEND OF ZORRO was beaten by a handy one on debut in Ocular. He looked like he was in for a good preparation this time, when travelling well in a jump-out against a few that look above average, including Wicklow Town and Smokin’ Romans. He since has run well without winning but this looks the easiest race he has contested. FEND OFF has not shown a great deal race day but he has been given time and the winkers go on, which could spark some improvement.
MOONEE VALLEY R5 #3 PAY YOUR DUES $4.85
He covered extra ground with no cover when first up at Sale. He since has been back to the jump-outs and went to the line under a big grip by the jockey. Think he is better than a class 1 horse. Next best #4 A LONE HERO.
MOONEE VALLEY R9 #4 MAKE IT COUNT $7.20
Only found one better last start in the same grade. Will be fitter for the run and should appreciate the heavy conditions.
HAWKESBURY R1 #5 BIANCHI CUP $3.65
I thought she had a chance last start at Newcastle, but the market got her right at the $17. She looked one paced in the straight but her work through the line and after was strong enough. Second up with the run under the belt, deserves another chance. Danger #1 KISS AND TELL.
HAWKESBURY R3 #2 INSIDER TRADER $8.60
Been running around in class 1’s so this looks easier back to a maiden. All races he has contested this preparation have rated well on the clock for that class. My concern is him coming back in distance but on the heavy track it should be a hard-enough fitness test for the opposition over the 1800m.
HAWKESBURY R5 #6 FRONT MONEY $2.10
She won well on debut at Newcastle after catching the eye at the trials. Only found Mo’s Crown too good at her second start and the form from that race has been franked with Mo subsequently winning a benchmark 74. The 3rd placed horse Beauty Betty has also won again.
