DUBBO R2 #4    ZARIZ RAIDER $14.20

I thought he showed a bit in the trial at Dubbo. He looked to have some natural pace and was not really tested in the straight, finishing behind Westlink. That galloper has subsequently run well in a benchmark 85, making ground in the straight to just miss 3rd. Princess Factor was in the same trial at Dubbo and goes around in the first race, so we should get a bit of a guide there.

BALLARAT R1 #2  RESOLUTE LAD $1.80

He has not been far away at all race starts. This does not look a strong maiden and he gets a bit of weight relief after carrying 59.5kg last start.

BALLARAT R2  #4 KEEPER’S DREAM  $26.50 #1 CARNAMAH $1.66

I thought Keeper’s Dream was a chance on debut after catching the eye in a few jump-outs. He finished close-up to stablemate Capital Zous in a Warrnambool jump-out and that galloper has subsequently won. He then went around in a jump-out with Mr Cancun, who travelled better but he did stick on with a bit of riding. Mr Cancun has since come out and won impressively. Saving on CARNAMAH who was also a tip on debut but could only manage 2nd. He did make good ground though and should appreciate the extra 100m here.

BALLARAT R3  #8 SHADOW PREY $5.10

This two-year-old went around in a Ballarat jump-out against the older gallopers. He hit the line with Smokin’ Romans, that galloper came out and bolted in on debut by 3.75L. He then won a heat at Burrumbeet and looked to stretch out nicely late when asked for an effort. One of the better bets of the day in my opinion. If playing the exotics, I would not be surprised to see improvement from #5 Halic and #12 Yankee Diva.

BALLARAT R4 #14  SPIRIT OF THE CAPE $11.00

Forget he went around last start at Benalla. He was starting to make some ground approaching the turn and then was squeezed out and had no hope after that. He recently was given a very easy time in a jump-out at Mornington, travelling under his own steam with a couple of Jerome Hunter gallopers that are better than maiden grade. I concede Altimeter will be hard to beat, after catching the eye last start when he made ground against Sacer Vates, but I find the eachway odds about Spirit of the Cape more appealing. If playing the exotics, include #6 Stinga and #8 Flintoffking who could fill a place at odds.

BALLARAT R7 #12  NAMA DUDE $7.80

It is a fair task going from the maiden win to a benchmark 70 but he bolted in last start at Ballarat. I always thought he would make a handy stayer and now that he is getting over 2000m he might be able to reach a decent level.

SUNSHINE COAST R4 #4  DYNAMIC DUO $4.30

I think connections would have been disappointed this colt has not broken through yet. I am convinced he can win a maiden and if he produced the same effort when 2nd behind Monetizing at Bendigo, he would have to go close here.

SUNSHINE COAST R5 #9  SULKING $3.35

The 2nd behind talented filly Fituese reads well. Fituese has subsequently won in listed company.
