I like following and having something on first starters when they catch the eye in open trials. This filly did that, she won the trial and beat Belfast Bella. That mare at her best is far better than maiden grade, she finished 4th in a benchmark 78 last year, that race included horses like Wolfe and Master of Wine. The trouble is, we do not know how good Belfast is travelling now after a disappointing run last start and a spell. #10 TRUST THE GUT this filly made some ground late in her first trial, the winner of the trial Delacour has been competitive since, finishing 2nd in both her race starts. Finishing 9th in that trial was Dream Runner, he subsequently won convincingly at big odds on debut. The second trial this filly went forward and went over the finishing line with Katie Did It and Lucy Rose, both those gallopers have won plenty of races. I have backed both #8 and #10. Next best if playing the exotics is #6 QUESTING caught my eye when trialling last preparation but was disappointing on the track. No trial coming into this, improvement would not shock. #1 Cops and Robbers brings the best benchmark figures into the race.
SANDOWN R8 #9 TABERNA $13.20
This daughter of Domesday has been good this preparation. Her only failure came at Pakenham when she was three wide with no cover the trip and was entitled not to finish the race off. Last start she was able to finish off much stronger when ridden cold at Sandown Hillside, running the fastest last 200m of the race. She should be able to get some cover and finish strong again and the odds between her and Hapaira should not be as far apart as they are. She also meets Hapaira better off at the weights this time.
