Donald R3 #4 NAMA DUDE $32.00
I thought this son of Rebel Raider was going to be competitive on debut. He ran through the line with Future Score at the Avoca jump-outs before that debut run and Future Score not long after proved he was in good shape by winning at Pakenham and finishing 2nd in listed class. He never got into that race at Stawell and was always towards the tail of the field. He has returned with a recent jump-out at Ballarat and was only beaten half a length by the winner, California Sunset, who has subsequently broken his maiden status. Will improve up in distance but may run a cheeky race at odds if he can find a forward position.
Newcastle R2 #6 MIDLAND $2.05
This two-year-old colt was right in the market on debut when lining up against the older gallopers. At the time I was puzzled why it was so short and I had the eventual winner on top, Eighth Immortal as the best bet on the day. In hindsight it is now easy to see why there was confidence with this galloper. He really found the line well behind the winner, who won the race with a great positive ride. He only must repeat that performance to win here. #1 BROOK HILL has trialled ok and looks up to running 2nd.
Randwick R1 #15 TEJORI $3.60
She might be pretty smart this filly. She could not have been more impressive when winning last start at Canberra when first up off a 321 -day spell, with no trial. She also had to do some work early from the wide gate and it was a fast pace set early by the leader, Penang. The most impressive part of the performance was when Brendan Ward pulled her off heels in the straight, she let down and the race was over in a flash. You would expect she could only strip fitter from the run and gets 3.5kg off her back. Excited to see what she can do.
