Echuca  R4  #8  Yulong Soldier $3.00

This son of Galileo gets his chance to win a weak maiden here. I thought he trialled well enough at Benalla before his debut to suggest that winning a maiden over distance would be well within his grasp. He was able to lead that trial and hold off a few horses who have proven much better than maiden grade. The 2nd placed horse, Neufbosc, although not in the best form of late had finished 3rd in listed grade. The 3rd placed horse Hey Happy, subsequently won a class 1 and Cooter Cha Cha won a 0-58 on Saturday in nice fashion by 2.5L. He should be able to go forward here, and I will be shocked if they can catch him today.

Echuca R9  #4  Ayton $4.45

This guy was jumping out and trialling really well prior to his debut win at Benalla. He did not win by a big margin, but I thought it was still a good effort after doing a bit of work to find the lead with a fast-early tempo. He also looked to find an extra gear when challenged by the runner up as they straightened. He was pretty disappointing 2nd up at Bendigo. I liked his chances there that day and fair to say I lost a bit of money after he ran last. He must be forgiven though, pulling up with induced pulmonary haemorrhage. The slight concern is I have not noticed any recent jump-outs to get a guide on how he is travelling fitness wise, but I am confident he is better than this grade if fit.

Grafton R4 #13  Spring Secret $3.75

I was keen on this three-year-old filly last start at big odds. I thought her run at Warwick Farm was good enough to see her be competitive in most maidens. I mentioned last time when tipping her, she crossed the finishing line at Warwick Farm with Significance, who then subsequently won by 7L at his next start in an absolute canter. Last start she did a bit of work early on speed at Goulbourn and was entitled to run out of steam late. The race rated well on the clock for maiden class and this looks the easiest assignment she has contested.

Tamworth R3 #11  Shukkas $6.10

This grey filly trialled well at Scone when running 2nd to proven older galloper Kool Vinnie. She then backed it up with a nice run on debut at Scone. After getting away slowly she looked like she wanted to get on with things when settling at the rear. She continued to work home nicely in the straight and looked strong after the finishing line, suggesting she is now definitely ready for the 1000m, which she gets here. #4 Agrapart has trialled well at Randwick, back in early March. #16 Tariff Trump looked to have some ability at the trials early days but has not yet shown much on race day.
