Sandown Hillside R6 #5 Glassey Miss $3.15
I thought this filly showed a good turn of foot when she won on debut at Hamilton. The form from that maiden win was franked with the 2nd and 3rd placed horses subsequently winning their next start. She was then given plenty of time in the paddock, being spelled for 25 weeks. The first up run at Sandown Lakeside was good, she made ground up the inside and did not have the clearest path but was still strong late over the line. Kuramae finished in last position in that race and has since won at Flemington. I thought the last start at Geelong should be treated as a trial, she never got clear running until the race was over. I am happy to back Craig Williams in to make amends here.
Balaklava R1 #5 Tullys Gold $1.60
I tipped this gelding on debut and he went painfully close to winning. He ran 2nd and was collared late on the line by Four of a Kind. Going into that run at Gawler, the two had met in a trial at Morphettville and Four of a Kind looked to have the measure of Tullys Gold. I think the way Tullys Gold was then able to show improvement from that trial into the debut, should see him improve again going into his second start. The time from that race rated very well for maiden class at Gawler and if he repeats that effort here, he should be winning.
Warwick Farm R2 #5 Young Heart $19.20
This geldings record does not read well at first glance with six starts and only the one placing. He has tended to over race and has been a bit unlucky on a few occasions. I thought he ran his best race when Tom Marquand rode him at Kembla Grange. Tom was positive from the gates and took the son of Moshe to the lead, he showed a good kick in the straight and was only collared late over the 1300m. The recent trial suggest he has come back well from a 14-week spell and he will improve over distance but happy to have something on today at the big odds.
