Pakenham R6 #8 Taberna $3.05

This four-year-old lightly raced mare resumed with a good win at Sale first up. She had to sustain a long run from midfield as the leader tried to kick clear before they straightened for home. She then showed some good fight to tough it out and stick her neck out on the line. I don’t think she beat  much there but I do have some time for the 3rd horse Court Deep, lightly raced and could be progressive. Preliminaires and Court Deep also had the bonus of a previous run under their belt. Now second up she will be fitter, stays at the same distance and drops 2kg in weight. Not a bad setup.

Wyong R2 #3 Kyo $4.05

This gelding caught my eye when he trialled at Randwick. He showed good natural speed to lead under his own steam and then won the trial by 2.5L. Finishing 2nd was Significant Rule, he has subsequently ran a close-up 2nd in a maiden, only beaten a head. They ran away from the opposition past the winning post in that trial and put a margin on Nowyunomi who has since won a maiden. He then went to Gosford for his debut and ran a very credible race, over racing early, midrace and then only getting swamped when vulnerable late. Next start he looked to relax a lot better in the lead and was only collared in the shadows of the winning post again. He drops 4kg from that run and gets his chance here to run them off their legs.

Wyong R3 #4    Secretly Awesome $1.70

Another galloper that got my attention at the NSW trials. The horses that beat him home in his first trial have gone on a mini winning streak. Zakat won his following two races, All Time Legend has won two, including a last start benchmark 70 and 3rd placed Kinane has won his maiden by over 2L. He won the 2nd trial at Rosehill in open class against some handy gallopers and that’s when I decided I’ll be following him when he goes to the races. The debut was full of merit, he was caught wide with no cover but still battled on bravely to run 2nd to a speedy one. This looks very winnable.
