Rail: True entire
Weather: Fine & warm
Track Condition: Good 4
Track Expectations: The spacious Newcastle track hosts the NSW metro meeting for the inaugural running of the $1m Hunter. All runners typically get their chance at this venue.

Race 1

The market can’t split the Waterhouse/Bott runners who will control the tempo from the front, Rapido Chapparo looks suited back to this trip. House Of Cartier may just get a cosy drop on them and third up at this trip is ideal.

Verdict: House Of Cartier

Race 2

A field of debutants tackles the 900m dash. Hard to know how to split them and the yard will be key – but Panna Cotta showed early speed at the trials and that may count for something here.

Verdict: Panna Cotta

Race 3

Big field for the Highway. Expecting improvement from Axella and Tully Toff didn’t miss by far in better company last start, but with just 50.5kg after the claim Smart Moove presents as a strong home from a good draw.

Verdict: Smart Moove

Race 4

So Taken gets the class drop and claim after a short freshen up, but the inside gate ay leave her in a sticky spot. She may end up spotting Vitesse a big start if she can cross over from the wide alley

Verdict: Vitesse

Race 5

The unbeaten Rule The World gets an ideal set up here with minimal pressure (on paper) on him at the head of the queue. Convinced was well backed when scoring last start and should enjoy the mile, as should Indy Car who may give away a big start but can fly home.

Verdict: Rule The World

Race 6

The Hunter should be run at a genuine tempo with a number of front-runners drawn wide. The locals make strong cases – Graff and Tactical Advantage will both be conserving energy at the rear for a home straight challenge. But their stablemate Le Romain could have the jump on them in running and just ran Pierata to a length first up. He makes a strong each-way case.

Verdict: Le Romain e/w

Race 7

Outrageous should park up behind the speed and gets in well with Brock Ryan’s claim. He should have a headstart on Into The Abyss, Bobbing and Miss Fabulass in the run – although the latter two both closed well in their last starts and look dangers.

Verdict: Outrageous

Race 8

Got Unders and Tahsin will push forward from out wide with Mushaireb tracking up in between. The latter has enjoyed seven weeks between runs and does his best work fresh. Soldier Of Love is knocking on the door.

Verdict: Mushaireb

Race 9

Leviathan’s form around Funstar makes for good reading here. He maps to take a sit off the speed with prime opportunity to strike. Burning Crown can use the lead to his advantage while Coterie’s best, albeit we haven’t seen it for a while, is good enough.

Verdict: Leviathan
