Rail: True entire course
Weather: Fine, warm & windy Friday
Track Condition: Soft 5
Track Expectations: Much like Sydney, warm and windy weather in Brisbane should see Doomben improve into the Good range for Saturday racing. The rail is back in the true which slightly reduces the leader advantage at the venue.
Seven of the 10 are having their first outing. The form around the two prior winners remains unproven. Debutants Lady Banff, Trip The Light and Rising Tycoon have impressed at the trials – the latter has a senior jockey on board.
Verdict: Rising Tycoon
Good speed drawn right across the track. Amorita will be searching for inside runs but has superior fresh form and the speed to win. Cailini and Love You Lucy will also be running on, likely to the outside.
Soxagon is shooting for a hat-trick at his first go at the mile, but the trip shouldn’t be an issue. Red Stina is the only logical danger but will likely be trying to run the favourite down which isn’t ideal.
Macewen rises in class but gets in under the minimum. He’s been super impressive in his last two starts but even money is prohibitive. That’s especially so if The Fire Trap shoots to the front and controls a muddling tempo – he can keep kicking.
Verdict: The Fire Trap
Scathing, Whittington Ways and Shooting Love may end up in a speed battle, with Purroni tracking them everywhere from barrier 2. She’s on the way up and gets the right set up to bring up a hat-trick.
Inquiry can ping to the front from the inside gate and will be hard to catch if so – not sure anything has the speed to go with it. Rabbit Hunter comes into calculations if jumping cleanly while Power Rush can track the leader.
Potentially a carbon copy of last start with Kubis leading and Fighting Teo in the box seat, peeling out and winning – third up now and with an extra 200m, the latter is advantaged again. High Opinion comes through a strong form line and carries the minimum weight.
Verdict: Fighting Teo
Trevelyan has had a freshen up after running three seconds at sub $4. He avoids Soxagon (R3) to come here and track Trommelschlagen everywhere from the low draw. Barefoot’s racing pattern/manners do her no favours but she’s often unlucky and can follow the market elect into this.
All Important and Metson are the only leaders and may pair off. Giving Whodunnit a go in an open affair, she’s third up after a good effort behind Macewen last start. The step up to this distance is her wheelhouse. Similarly, Maslow will enjoy the extra journey.
Verdict: Whodunnit e/w
Saving the best until last – the day finishes with a Listed event over six furlongs. I’m a Rippa sets the pace. Outback Barbie’s last resuming effort was a 1.65L fifth behind The Bostonian at Group 1 level and she draws ideally here. Vega One burst on to the scene in the winter and can also feature fresh, while Tambo’s Mate is up and about but this is a significant rise in grade and his price should ease. Chapter And Verse is also a first up performer. Cracking finale.
Verdict: Outback Barbie
