Racepal Eagle Farm Preview – 2nd November 2019

Rail: +6m entire course
Weather: Light showers
Track Condition: Good 4
Track Expectations: Scattered showers around Brisbane on Friday and Saturday, but not enough to cause any problems with the track. At worst, we’ll flirt with a Soft track towards the back end of the card but given how well the track drains and absorbs water, it is rather unlikely.

Expect that a position up around the speed and just off the fence will be a slight advantage but there is no doubt that the ‘new’ Eagle Farm is racing very well giving all comers a chance.

Race 1

Checkmate Lad can control a muddling tempo. Don’t mind Tactee on the back up, she went down narrowly at this track and trip last week but drops 5kg here. Can settle handily from the inside alley. Magstock will be charging late.

Verdict: Tactee

Race 2

Six of the seven on debut. Rothfire the only one with race experience, an all-the-way win at his only outing. Wisdom Of Water has created an impression by winning both trials and early settling positions may prove crucial.

Verdict: Rothfire

Race 3

Piracy and The Odyssey will look to cross and lead. Piracy is formerly of Godolphin and commands respect if any downgrade occurs. The Odyssey is a 3yo enjoying weight relief against older horses. But Capital Connection gets the nod from a likely stalking position and a last start win in this grade.

Verdict: Capital Connection

Race 4

Our third straight 1000m race on the card so watch the pattern from the previous two. Flaming Boss is putting up the picket fence but this is a step up. A horse like Pizonie will be primed to strike if the pressure is too much.

Verdict: Pizonie

Race 5

More five furlong action. Sukwhinder has enjoyed a deserved let up after a tough win and returns to the scene of the crime. The filly can find the fence and prove too speedy for horses like Shalwa and Enterprise Louise.

Verdict: Enterprise Louise

Race 6

If The Odyssey is here rather than Race 3 he can lead, this 3YO assignment arguably looks more difficult. Howwonderfullifeis will be working on speed and may set this up for any of Xanthus (box seat), Atlantic King (strong last start) or Take Tea (big closer from the rear). The extra fitness and drop back to 1200m gives Xanthus the edge, he beat Ballistic Boy last run at the trip.

Verdict: Xanthus

Race 7

Many chances in this one. Storm Harbour maps well, this is a step up from midweek grade but he makes his own luck. Francisca can settle closer and faces softer company here so should be thereabouts, but hasn’t been kind to punters of late.

Verdict: Storm Harbour e/w

Race 8

Good speed engaged right across the track. A horse like Copywriter is racing in the zone and producing likeable figures in this crowd. He can settle just behind the speed alongside the likes of Valario and Sanglier and be challenging in the straight.

Verdict: Copywriter

Race 9

Park Chinois got the job done at this track and trip three weeks back. He has every hope from a similar draw with Bayliss’ weight relief. Erringhi Spring was well fancied when leading all the way at the midweeks and now faces the step up, can lead a long way. Crafty Spirit is the big closer.

Verdict: Park Chinois

Race 10

Deep Image sets up perfectly for this but draws the far outside once again. Stepping up to 1400m he may still be able to cross and typically has a kick left on straightening. If he’s made to work then Crafty Spirit (if here) and Belflyer will be threatening.

Verdict: Deep Image
