Rail Position: +3M ENTIRE
Dual Track Meeting: N
Track Type: Turf
Track Condition: Soft 5
Weather: Fine

Race 1

An iconic race to start the day. Ticket To Ride was ok at the trials, good enough to win here. Every Rose did as well and I like her racing style for this. Stellar Pauline is a 875k yearling, sister to G1 winner Secret Agenda who trialled nice as well.

Verdict:  Every Rose

Race 2

A race for a colts, the Breeders Plate has been won by the likes of Vancouver, Dubious, Performer, Smart Missile, Pierro, Sebring and Snitzel. Needless to say, the winner will come out of this with some wraps! Expect Belieber will be forward for this. Nitrous a speedy type too who will be on speed here. Postcode might want further, Global Quest in it as well but you can’t tip them all!

Verdict:  Nitrous

Race 3

Dealmaker went up way too short here. Unfortunately, the market has already noticed. He is a bit of a paddler. Greysful Glamour looks to be in for a good prep and love how she profiles for this race. Shock Alert will be near the speed with her and looks a leading contender as well.

Verdict:  Greysful Glamour

Race 4

This is a ridiculous Group 1. A real insult to our industry. Funstar vs Probabeel. Funstar probably settles in the run a few lengths clear of her rival which is an advantage. The market probably has them about right with her holding slight favouritism over the Savabeel filly. Can’t see one of the others contending.

Verdict:  Funstar

Race 5

Another $500,000 Everest trial for the sprinters. Brutal is one to watch over further this prep. He is an absolute star. Osborne Bulls is competing with some stablemates for an Everest slot, so expect he is there to perform well and Home Of The Brave potentially turns on some speed for him? Classique Legend right to be favourite but can be slightly flat before an Everest peak. Think Graff wants further and more tempo.

Verdict:  Osborne Bulls

Race 6

Verry Elleegant is also nominated in Melbourne so she is a tricky one to assess. I think she wins if she stays here. Not convinced she is much more than a 2000m horse, though. Youngstar I thought was going really well but needs to show something now. Samadoubt is the yardstick they have to catch on speed but he will have some company in the form of Angel Of Truth.

Verdict:  Verry Elleegant to mow down Samadoubt late

Race 7

Without doubt the best betting race of the day. It is always a cracker! Dreamforce gives them weight but will make his own luck on speed. Cascadian is the one who really interests at the odds. Drawn to get a soft run in transit and just need some Robbie Dolan magic (and luck) in the straight. Like his upward spiral he seems to be on. Te Akau Shark is set to peak here, the draw probably means he settles a bit further back than they would like. A cart into the race crucial to his chances. The fact they are talking about a Cox Plate as well has me a touch worried on tactics and how fit he is for this. Kolding will be strong late.

Verdict:  Cascadian from Te Akau Shark and then Kolding

Race 8

There are just so many chances here. Supernova was a forgive last start and huge the start before. Promising horse. Neuofbosc gets his chance to show something over a suitable trip. Big Duke wants rain. Brimham Rocks looks very short. Stampede will be on the pace and Hush Writer on top of the ground should go well. Still lightly raced and there is no reason that Newcastle Cup form can’t measure up here.

Verdict: Hush Writer

Race 9

Only a BM88 but it is a competitive race to finish off the day. Consistent runner Star Boy has been smashed in the early betting. He is Kosciusko bound. Roheryn might need too much luck, but I wanted to find him here. Handle The Truth on the speed hard to knock but I am going to tip Reelem In Ruby on top. She resumes off a hot trial and I love her turn of foot. She can put this field a way with some clear air in the straight.

Verdict: Reelem In Ruby
