Expecting things to play fairly typical Moonee Valley. Often the night meetings for whatever reason favor on-pace horses slightly more than the day meetings.

Race 1

King Of Hastings trialled up really well before running second in a harder race than this. Hard to beat here. Small field suits Fiery Red who sprinted off a slow speed to win fresh? Barcali was right there with King Of Hastings at Caulfield.

Verdict: King Of Hastings

Race 2

Bit of speed in this race that will make things interesting. Vegas Knight is a talent that we haven’t seen the best of yet. Weaker field suits him. Power Scheme has the better of The Holy One and Conqueror you’d think given he beat them spotting them a start at the weights and fitness wise fresh.

Verdict: Vegas Knight EW

Race 3

Priness Jeni and Miss Siska dominate the market here. The latter ran 2nd to Kenedna in a Group 1 second-up last preparation. That’s strong form for this. Silent Roar likes the Valley and maps well at odds.

Verdict: Miss Siska

Race 4

Open field and a genuine raffle. Of course we can expect good speed in the 955m scamper. Looking wide in the market here for a horse that can stalk the speed and finish over the top. Humma Humma flies fresh, likes Moonee Valley and fits the bill of a swooper coming wide to blouse them.

Verdict: Humma Humma EW

Race 5

Loving Gaby likely scratches from this, she can win if she is here though, such a nice horse who raced almost exclusively in the highest company as a 2YO. Exhilarates default pick here from the soft gate but no moral given Villami brings the strong Sydney form behind Libertini.

Verdict: Exhilarates

Race 6

Cracking race the JRA Cup this year with boom horse Yucatan going around. Qafila was a forgive last start, the barrier draw is tricky though she is ready to step. Sully is as well and the low gate is a positive and expect he is ridden with more intent. Hope Captain Cook goes better than Thomas Cook has this week.

Verdict: Yucatan

Race 7

Blink and you’ll miss this lot! Genuinely think Nature Strip just gives them windburn. As for the others, Trekking will close strong but likely find it a bit too slick. Sunlight prefer when fully fit and at 1200m, Faatinah honest but out of class a touch, Ball Of Muscle fast but may find Nature Strip softens him too much at the front. Booker and Winter Bride the big potential roughies at odds if they overdo it in front.

Verdict: Nature Strip BEST

Race 8

Busy sprint to finish with plenty of chances. Both Tavisan and Usain Bowler have won at this track recently. Mandela Effect is the interesting one, though. Winner of eight from 15 starts. Great fresh record. First look at Moonee Valley and no senior jockey two negatives to factor in.

Verdict: Mandela Effect
