Track Condition: Good 4
This track watering policy in Victoria has the potential to ruin Caulfield which has been such a good betting track for so, so long. Let’s hope we do get some rain so they don’t have to irrigate.
Oceanex highlighted in Ones To Watch looks really well placed. M Zahra lobs on as well which is a big positive! Pierrocity suited in mares grade, Annarbor and Camelle the other dangers to the favourite here.
Petrelle goes well fresh and 1100m is her distance. Top pick here. Low draw not ideal for Prophet’s Thumb but she has a lovely turn of foot. Algadon Miss is a winner who steals the cheap run along the rail.
Hope Qalifa goes to this race. Maps so well and M Zahra jumps on. Dr Drill also nominated in Sydney on Saturday. Vassilator hasn’t fulfilled his talent as of yet. Watch Savvy Oak, Kiwia and Plein Ciel for something like a good country cup in a few weeks?
Not sure what went wrong with Chapada in the Autumn when he rated so well leading into the Derby. Admiral’s Joker might be a 7YO but he is still on the way up and maps well here. Rox The Castle suited if leaders are sticking on. Waging War needs luck from the wide gate.
Verdict: Admiral’s Joker
Deep race but lacking in absolute A-graders. Fancy that to win a Guineas you’ll need to be top three in this at least. Express Pass on the upward path is such a nice horse. Hilo brings similar form to him and again is untapped. Shotmaker is big odds as well. Dalasan deserves to be top pick but there is real value outside of him.
Verdict: Multiples around 3,10,12 and 14
Watch out for the Godolphin quartet here! Tenley is a genuine dry tracker and she has drawn well. Flit and Lyre will be spotting a big start to the leaders. Missile Mantra ready to peak after a few excuses. Needs the three wide line in the run and will go close.
Verdict: Tenley / Missile Mantra quinella
Hartnell looks a touch more dour this prep, 1800m looks ideal and will again get a cheap run on the fence. Gatting short enough at $5.50 given he is coming off a peak and can mix form a little bit. Homesman default top pick but will need a touch of luck from the draw. Time for Kenedna and Humidor to show something.
Why do they keep placing Spirit Of Valor so poorly? Bizarre! Brave Song is a good fresh who trialled well. Zoustyle drops in class a little bit and this week will surely be let roll on speed. Military Zone trialled up nicely, loves 1200m but first look Caulfield while Special Reward needs to measure over in Victoria.
Verdict: Brave Song EW
A lot of dual acceptors here. Tricky to attack early but it is a decent quality race given the rating. Tarwin stays at 1400m and draws wide… yuck! Want to back but has enough against. Jumbo Ozaki needs a start but watch out if he gets in. Harbour Views will make his own luck around the speed and be very tough to beat. Many other chances
Verdict: Harbour Views
