Racepal Eagle Farm Preview – 7th September 2019

Meeting: Eagle Farm
Date: 7th September
Rail: 5m entire
Weather: Fine
Track Condition: Good 4
Track Expectations: Dry and hot in Queensland, again! How much will they water the track is the only real thing to follow here. Also just monitor the wind which is expected to be in the mid to late twenties (km / hour)

Key runners and ones to watch:

  • Snoopy he was only plain first-up I thought but made a big step forward in ratings second-up. A tiny bit more improvement and he will be hard to beat in a competitive sprint here.
  • Exdream one of Kris Lees runners who is based in Queensland. I thought his win last start at Ipswich was terrific. He can measure up in town if he gets a start in the very busy last race of the day.
  • Sanglier ex-Godolphin runner who is about to start his second prep with Matty Dunn. Dunn did get him to win twice last prep and on both occasions the horse was either leading or outside the lead. Expect he will push forward with the quality senior jockey booked on Saturday.

Race 1

Miss Shanti is very hard to beat here. Certainly do not want to be laying at 2.20/2.30 as is the current market price. There is not a great deal of speed on paper here and as is often the case in Queensland, the late money may give you some hints about the map and who is going forward!

Race 2

Reckless Choice lacks early speed and I prefer Thornton on leaders so would need to see a drift before we consider a betting proposition. Trevelyan ticks lots of boxes and is the one to beat here for Robbie Fradd.

Race 3

Three kilo claiming apprentice Nick Keal jumps on the favourite here and at $3 in the early market, it looks short enough. No knock at all on Smug Satisfaction who will likely race outside the favourite and not need as much luck in run.

Race 4

Smaller field but probably the best race of the day. Plenty of chances here. Snoopy probably holds the lead or just drops in behind. Snitz will be up there too. They are the top picks. Scallopini is the one who looks likely to drift.

Race 5

Hopefully Don’t Waiver keeps drifting as it looks like an ok roughie. Grand Zou was a smart winner at the Sunshine Coast over 1200m breaking its maiden. The step in distance suits but he does need to improve plenty to justify that short price.

Race 6

Dreamtimer just missed after being very well backed last start. In the mix again here as is Sienna Rose albeit the latter is pretty short in the market right now. Elixir is consistent but did take 11 runs after his maiden to win again, a chance at odds.

Race 7

Young Nick Keal finds himself on another favourite. Hard to knock Capital Connection and the wide draw over the 1000m isn’t too bad and should allow him to track into the race with cover. Sanglier is a runner to watch in the market fresh.

Race 8

Competitive race with fit horses well handicapped. Magnufighter maps nicely in behind the speed. Morendi and Aqua Vite were two runners with quality senior jockeys on, who map to be in the second half of the field but looked nice odds in the early market.

Race 9

Big old field to finish. The speed map is hectic too! Bit of a dartboard job here. I’d be looking for runners with senior jockeys on who can track into the race with cover just off the speed. If you find the right one, you’ll get a price here!
