Meeting: Kensington (Randwick inner)
Date: 4th September
Rail: +2m entire
Track Condition: Soft 7 (time of writing)
Track Expectations: Track slowly drying after the big wet in Sydney. No rain scheduled between now and race one means the track will be improving slowly. Expect it is a testing surface but not bottomless like Rosehill on Saturday. Slight advantage on pace at Kenso, as per the norm.
Key runners and ones to watch:
- Entente A 3YO Dundeel colt on debut who has three trials (he won the latest one) leading into this suggesting he will be there to run well. The 1400m first-up will not be an issue given the horse is likely to get out to 2000m eventually.
- Texas Forever Deep Field juvenile (they are all flying) who had three trials leading into breaking his maiden on debut. Finds a hot race with horses progressing through grades – has fitness on his side but is more of a wait and see prospect.
- Exotic Ruby Lightly raced Snitzel mare for an astute trainer. Little flat run when progressing past her maiden but looks set to run a new peak third-up for the prep.
Great race to kick things off. #3 Entente we cover off on above, has gone up short. #2 Promotions got the blows in betting resuming but still ran well. You’d expect the run, plus the step up in distance will suit and looks another winning hope.
Open race with many runners progressing from their maidens into a decent city midweek race. Wide open race! #8 Texas Forever is a capable double figure chance. #10 Super Oasis showed enough in winning its maiden to be given a little freshen up and come back for better racing. Nash faces a decision from the barrier but knowing him, he might roll forward.
#1 Royal Witness is flying and the handicapper is catching up to him. The stable have thrown the 3kg claimer on top to offset that a bit. Hard to beat but looks short enough if he stays at his current red figure quote. #8 Human Nature is on the way through the grades and looks a promising type. Best chance to topple the fav.
#5 Penshurst is a lightly raced import who looks ready to do something. Early betting signals would say the punters agree! #2 Breakdance will roll forward and with Bowman on, hard to see running poorly albeit a pretty exposed type now.
Love that #9 Flying Pierro has drawn barrier 1 here. The Waller stable love to go forward on those low draws and we can see him settling in a nice position just off the speed here. Plenty of other chances. Market and yard watch on the resuming #5 Zalatte. Gun jock James McDonald takes the ride on her.
#2 Rock is the key runner here to nail given his price in the early play. Not sure where he gets to on the speed map but it is very hard not to be impressed by that first-up win. #3 Don’t Leave Me Out won twice at 1100m last prep so not sure why he is out to 1300m here – happy to look elsewhere. #4 Juventus will get back and storm home, good multiples filler.
Our runner to watch #6 Exotic Ruby has gone up favourite and as we mentioned, looks ready to peak. #7 Lakia the likely leader for a gun front running jockey in Tim Clark one of the main dangers!
