Date: 4th September
Rail: +8m entire
Track Condition: Soft 5
Track Expectations: Dry and hot in Queensland. Track will improve and unless they over-water it, will prove to be a first-four in run type track. Overall it is a pretty uninspiring card with small fields in the majority of races.
Key runners and ones to watch:
- Shoot Again High Chaparral 4YO gelding that is yet to race. Resuming in a race (1350m maiden) that will likely be well short of his optimum distance. Trial was only plain but over 840m so nothing more than a pipe opener. Strikes a weak race.
- Da Power The win two starts back at Muswellbrook rated very well. A repeat effort would have him winning the pretty average race he is entered in here at Ipswich.
Not an overly exciting race this. #1 Reus has the numbers to be competitive and we expect he will race on speed. Red Bloom dropping back in distance and rock hard fit is a good candidate to go forward from the low draw, will Cahill pull the trigger?
Pretty average maiden where a good default starting position is to find fit horses racing near the speed. #1 Candy Floss does fit that bill and has shown the most ability of this bunch. Limited interest elsewhere.
Two first-starters in this 1350m maiden. #4 Shoot Again for Tony Gollan is one of those. You’d expect being a High Chaparral he will get out over more ground but in a soft race can be competitive fresh. #9 Vanderwink probably leads, is fit, but very limited.
Soft race, but at least we have some race winners here! #4 Da Power looks incredibly well placed. Kris Lees has horses bobbing up everywhere these days! Last start at Warwick Farm not much went right, prior to that an impressive win. Very hard to beat here. #6 Ready Set Boom holds his form well and is coming off a win. Will be on pace and give a good sight.
#1 Get Stuck In will bounce off the fresh run and appreciate the extra distance. Expect he can settle closer this time as well. #5 Time To Play is a chance if you can forgive the last start effort that was very plain. #2 Bastia likely leader, has produced solid fresh runs in the past and will be in the market. He finished 6th of 8 in trial leading in but it was with some of Kris Lees better middle distance horses so don’t pot him too much based off that.
#5 Mister Spinks is limited but maps nicely and can run the number needed. #7 Bozeman also maps well, a repeat of his effort winning an easier race last time has him in the mix while #4 Justify is in the same boat of needed to repeat of previous performance in lesser grade.
#7 Zilitor is one of very few leaders in the race. Did win fresh last campaign but that was a weaker race than this. #4 She Za Boss is a mare coming off a peak run in lesser grade who will be popular in the market. A candidate for a flat run and one to potentially take on.
The only big field for the day at Ipswich and we have a busy speed map. This is the race where we may see the winner come down the middle of the track. #9 Fisticuffs bouncing off a maiden win fits that bill as does #1 Black Strata and #5 Depths Below.
