Premier League Round 2 Preview

The Premier League was back with a bang last week with big wins for Man City, Liverpool and Tottenham. This week it goes up another gear with the mouth-watering clash of the Champions and the Champions League finalists, Spurs. City go into the game as short priced favourites at $1.33 after starting their campaign off by thumping West Ham 5-0, but let’s not rule out Spurs’ chances at $8.60 after a few key signings, including Tanguy Ndombele who looked right at home with a quality strike against Villa. After strengthening during pre-season, they will be hoping to close the gap on the top two. Man City might be a bit short but who can honestly see them losing with enough depth to field two quality starting XIs?

Burnley’s visit to the Emirates to take on Arsenal is the first game of the round; and the odds have Arsenal as the shortest price team this week at $1.29. I am sure the Gunners will be in plenty of multis on the weekend. Liverpool visit their academy, aka Southampton, and will kick-off as another short-priced favourite at $1.38. The City, Arsenal and Liverpool treble won’t be enough to retire off, but currently paying $2.37 is difficult to see any of them slipping up.

The biggest shock of week 1 would have been Brighton and their Aussies Matt Ryan and Aaron Mooy traveling to Vicarage Road and smashing Watford 3-0. Can they keep up their hot start against a very disappointing West Ham?

Other games include the first Premier League game back at Villa Park as Bournemouth visit Aston Villa. The previously mentioned Watford travel to Goodison Park to take on a heavy spending Everton team. Norwich and Sheffield United also have their first home games with Newcastle and Crystal Palace visiting. Chelsea look to get the first win under club legend Frank Lampard when Leicester visit early Monday morning. The last game of the week and first Monday Night Football (Tuesday morning for us Aussies) see the impressive Man United travel to Molineux to take on Wolves fresh off the back of thumping Chelsea 4-0.
